Street Fighter V

I started playing this recently as I've got a bit of spare time with the lockdown + not being able to go to TCG locals. Does anyone else play? I have both PS4 and PC, although PC's probably my primary platform because it leaves the TV free.

I have it on PC as well, I like it because it's got a huge pool of players, so it's great for just hopping on and finding a match. I'm down to give it a shot sometime if you wanna visit lag city.

The online has been pretty fucking solid so far, when i've been taking matches on "5 only" connection

Not sure how far I can push that distance wise, of course. Mainly gotten into it as it's the simplest fighter to just pick up a match and fight someone in, without having to worry about the DLC/Loading Screens/Weird Lobbies/Shit Netcode that Arc System Works have unfortunately made staples of their recent games

I'm basically just trying to get good at fighters before strive launches

Ugh, Strive. Why did they finally decide to incorporate good netcode and then put it in what looks to be their worst game yet? RIP
Yeah SF5 feels great at 5-bar only, 4 starts getting iffy, and anything lower is comedically bad.

nah it's toast
That post-beta survey they did was addressed in a blog post and can pretty much be summed up with "we have heard your critique and don't care"

Really? That wasn't the impression I got at all.

They said they were gonna work on the lobbies, the UI, put in rollback netcode (GGPO), and tweak the damage scaling as required in the run-up to launch.

Like I'm sad gatlings are gone but I'm gonna wait until it's out before I declare it DOA.

That was how to it felt to myself and my enclave of old bitter GG players, so it is admittedly a cynical perspective, but slapping all of those disclaimers about "keep in mind this is intended to be all new and not a continuation of older titles" or w/e was quite the red flag. I get wanting to go for a more casual audience for a more widespread appeal, but the casual audience really couldn't care less about system changes, they just want a big roster and big boobs. They clamor for Baiken, but they'll drop her as soon as they have to learn how to IAD Tatami. Replacing gatlings with links seems counter to their attempts at increase accessibility as well, timing a 1-2 frame link is way trickier than just slapping buttons in succession. I hope it turns out ok, I love that franchise, but oh man it's not looking good. If they gave Revelator one more update I think it would have been fantastic, but RIP.

The main thing that has me worried about Strive is by nature it's an anime fighter, so it'll get dropped like a fucking rock as soon as a newer anime fighter comes out, because (to put it reductively) the anime community tends to equate new to better/more active.

I'm still really enjoying SFV though, been spending a tonne of time in training mode mostly while I work out what the fuck to do. Sometimes the muscle memory kicks in in ranked but for the most part I'm still at the stage where I'm resorting to panic. One thing that has me enjoying it a tonne more though is ignoring my W/L ratio, which I cared about way too much on IV even though I was super super low ranked. Play more, get better, right?

Dude this has pissed me off for years, but at the same time it means any game that isn't new now generally only has players that care. Another variant is the guy that won't play a game because he's "waiting for the next version" but then quits a week into the next version because now he's "too far behind"

Oddly enough I found motivation in the opposite, I wanted to see if I could make it to gold so I got super fired up to get there. Then I actually made it to gold and completely lost interest in the game, so it didn't really work out long term lol. Who do you use? Zeku was the character I ended up enjoying the most.
