Playstation 5: an op ed.

Post by Agent D. »

Xbox Series X sounds like a porno made by a sci fi nerd. Also I'm just really eager to see what's coming.

I stole Esufer's shtick. I have no shame.

I also misspell words. Not a schtick, I'm just lazy and don't doublecheck.

I honestly don't know what to think of the PS5.

Sony's hate boner for weebshit is getting a bit worrisome especially because they still don't seem to communicate clearly what they hate so much. That intimacy mode in the last SK game had to be removed - ironically, they were completely fine with the dressing room feature in SK PBS where you could change the water color to yellow or white and douse the girls in that if you catch my drift. Outside of that they only came down hard on low budget games I normally don't care about but once they start, who knows where they'll stop.

I'm also a bit salty about how they handled the Vita. It was an amazing system but neither Sony nor a 3rd party wanted to provide a killer app and the more it turned into a niche weeb machine, the more Sony hated it or so it seemed. They tend to drop the ball hard when things don't work out. Look at PS Move for example. Decent concept (and great for Houe of the Dead) but the moment it underperformed because no killer app, it was dropped (and later revived for VR). Idk how their VR is doing but I heard that they closed one of their VR studios, so there's that.

Have they actually shown the console yet? I saw the tech demo and it instantly made me wonder how much of that will be me playing and how much of that will be just cinematic stuff? Oh and then recently it was said that the tech demo didn't do so well because the PS5 SSD is too fast for it. Give me a break man, all this dumbass hype about how the SSD will change anything and how the PS5/Xbox will outperform current gen PCs and whatnot - it's all bullshit. We had the same people write up the same shit shortly before the release of PS4/Xbone. They promised 1080p/60fps and often games ran below that. I mean, at least this time Ubisoft stole Microsoft's thunder before the 4k/60fps meme would be spouted back and forth - so, thanks Ubishit. Because right after that came out, M$ backpedalled hard "Well we said it would be the norm but we actually didn't say it. The xbox can theoretically do this but it's up to developers". Honestly, I'm glad this meme died before it could really take off.

In that regard Sony has been very smart and kept their mouth shut. Whether that's a good or bad sign remains to be seen.

Oh yeah I remember every big faceless corporation out there tweeting "Dear minority, we support you, now please buy our product" and Sony was among those. Idk man, all I was playing the past few months on my PS4 was Yakuza and FFXIV. The former is slowly dripping to other systems and for the latter I've sold my account to be rid off that ball and chain.

I don't care much for their cinematic experience games on the other hand, the kind of cool exclusives they have get shot down like Gravity Rush. Loved those games to death but I don't see them ever making a return, sadly.

Sony would have to do a lot of shit to win me over, but I doubt that's happening because they are still in a pole position and they know it.

Fair enough. I love a lot of their new single player stuff, so I'm definitely interested in where it's going. Between FFVII remake, The Last of Us, and God of War, with a little Spider man and a dash of a possible continuation of Ratchet and Clank, I've been very satisfied as a playstation owner. I get your point though, it's been a while since interestingly obscure games have been a thing with Sony, but those don't really click with me. I've become a basic rpg bitch in my old age, with a dabbling of action adventure games here and there, and Sony has those in the bag now.

If they work for you, fair enough. I mean I did enjoy Uncharted and Uncharted 2 on my first time through. But after that they just didn't click with me anymore. I can also see the merit in playing stuff like Heavy Rain, so if people like them let them. I think the drive for ultra realism is hurting games in the long run. I mean, look at RDR2 and how many pointless and unnecessary animations it has that interrupt the gameplay. Wanna skin an animal? Lets watch Arthur do that. Wanna loot someone? Watch Arthur pat them down. It's the main reason why I just can't enjoy the game. In general I hate it when the game repeatedly takes control away from me for the dumbest reasons but this is not the thread to discuss this.

Another very big gripe for me with Sony, which I completely forgot about until now, was their retarded stance on mods for Skyrim and Fallout 4. I mean, yeah, I'll concede that the only reason why M$ said "whatever" was because they were losing the race anyway. But Sony coiling backwards in fear and screaming "Noooooo!" was really stupid. Good on them and the players that they eventually relented and you could at least install some baseline mods - even those helped improve the games a lot. But the moment I loaded the mod menus for Fallout 4 and Skyrim on the Xbone I was overwhelmed by the sheer amount of mods that were available. You can make the games look fantastic on the Xbone, it completely blows the PS4 versions out of the water (I posted some screenshots on Twitter, Elec can more or less vouch for that haha). Sure, I don't know how M$ will handle mods for the next TES game or the inevitable re re rerelease of Skyrim, but Sony's "Nooooooooooo" reaction was a big yikes in my book.

For the time being I am content with my Xbone and Switch. For me it really depends on how M$ will play their hand. If the 360 games I have here and the Xbone games receive a decent boost in performance, I might pick up a Sexbox.

Edit: I DO have to applaud Sony for the Share button system though. I'm 100% serious here that having a dedicated button for screenshots was a fucking great idea and I am glad that this was something Nintendo copied. The way M$ handled this is absolute cancer. It has gotten better like being able to directly post Screenshots to social media. (I remember back then, you could only upload them to XBL or One Drive and were only able to post links to One Drive on Twitter). Sony gets some negative points for forcing links to the PS Store if you post a video on Twitter though.

So this generation I ended up with an Xbox One X and a PS4 Pro, and I've gotta say with the PS5 I'm probably going to wait for the revised version, unless they end up not launching the later parts of FFVII remake on the PS4, at which point my hand will likely be forced.

Considering how shit launch lineups have been historically, I'm firmly out of the early adopter crowd for now.

I have to say I am quite happy with the X. The BC is really nice and some games run better on the X than Pro (like Withcer) and it's a lot quieter. I just fucking hate the UI so much.
