ANALYSIS OF PERCEPTIONS ABOUT THE POSITIVE AND NEGATIVE POINTS OF USING RADIO

Post by shuli123 »

The objective of this article is to analyze whether the positive and negative points highlighted in articles regarding the use of radiofrequency identification in libraries correspond to reality in practice, analyzing the perception of library employees in Brazil, who already use this technology. This article compiles some libraries in several states in Brazil that already make use of this technology, and seeks, through a questionnaire formulated using the Likert scale , with 18 closed questions from 1 (totally disagree) to 5 (totally agree) and an open question , analyze the perception of employees regarding the positive and negative points of using radiofrequency identification in the day-to-day operations of the sector.

This questionnaire was created using the Google Forms tool and sent via email to the libraries identified in this study. Finally, it is concluded that, regarding the negative points, the high cost of implementing the technology and possible problems of interference in the use of the tools are verified in practice, in agreement with the authors who pointed out. Possible software problems were also checked in some libraries. The other negative points were not supported in the questionnaire. Regarding the positive points, with the exception of a lower demand for employees in the sector and a reduction in injury problems, the other benefits highlighted in the use of radiofrequency identification technology were verified in the libraries researched.

This article focuses on serving as a basis for a decision-making process for managers who seek to update technology in their library sectors, being able to weigh the positive and negative points Electronic and Electrical Manufacturers Email List of implementing this technology. Keywords: RFID, radio frequency, library. 1. INTRODUCTION RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) technology is one of the most prominent in use in libraries, allowing greater automation and security, facilitating control of the library's collection, facilitating information management and allowing greater autonomy for library users. sector (SILVEIRA; VALMORBIDA, ).

This allows libraries to modernize and provide a better service to their users, and make the work of their employees easier. A tag , a tag reader/writer, and an antenna are the most basic components of RFID technology. The tag is made up of a main chip, along with other circuits, and has a unique identification code and is capable of storing information. The reader/writer is the tool capable of reading and writing data in tags , which can be fixed or a portable handheld reader. And the antenna is responsible for transmitting, through electromagnetic waves, information between the tags and the readers. RFID technology has already been used in libraries and in various sectors for more than years (ZHOU, ).

The use of this technology in libraries consists of identifying collection items, such as books, magazines, media assets, through RFID tags, using self-loan and self-return counters, which offers self-service to users, who can pick up and return items without having to go through an employee, anti-theft portals, inventory control, among others. The most used system in libraries is the barcode, and RFID comes to overcome the difficulties of this system (MADDILETI et al, ). The benefits proposed by adopting this technology consist of cost and time savings in processing the sector's goods, an improvement in services provided to library customers, a reduction in theft and theft of books, a reduction in manual labor, among other benefits (MOHAMMED et al., ). This article aims to identify the perceived relevance of the positive and negative points of using RFID in Brazilian libraries that already use this technology.

To this end, a questionnaire was created that seeks to evaluate, through employees, the perception of these attributes raised by different authors regarding this technology. In this way, this article aims to serve as a basis for a decision-making process for the manager who is planning to update the management system of his library sector, since he can evaluate the positive and negative aspects of this system that have been experienced in practice in other libraries.
