Xbox Series X: Huge fucking chungus edition

Post by Esufer »

It's gonna get really confusing with all the Xboxes having really fucking similar names. Won't be buying one of these at launch, but if it's close to the experience with my X i've had so far, I'll very likely pick one up at some point.

The event they held recently wasn't anything to write home about, and opening up with Bright Memory was a weird choice considering it's a £4 game that's been on Steam for quite a while.

Letting me use my elite controller with the console is a big+, and I'm hoping the console isn't ignored by ArcSys again this generation (outside of DBFZ).
Could be okay? The backwards compatibility is pretty cool too, especially if it's actually comprehensive. There's some weird gaps in the Xbone's backwards compatibility.

From what I heard they stopped expanding the Xbone BC because they wanted to move forward with the new Xbox. So there's hope that it will get expanded upon. The problem with Xbobs' BC is that it depends on the publishers. If a publisher is dead or like Sega, just not giving a flying fuck, they can't offer the game for download/sale. Which is why we never received some BC on titles like Tales of Vesperia or Jet Set Radio Future and why we get the shitty android port of GTA San Andreas when we pop in the original Xbawks disc of SA.

But just like you, I won't be getting a new console right on release. Not worth it at all. How soon I will get one really depends on how well it handles BC. Will 360 games get a boost in fps / resolution? Will Xbone games get a boost? If yes to both, then I might be in in a year or so after release. I also hope they keep up their positive attitude towards mods in Bethesda games and don't do a Sony.

Some stuff on the XBOne X BC was really good (Republic Commando being the best example), I'd really like an opportunity to play stuff like Nier at a really solid frame rate. Or fuck, even PSU lmao.

If they're going back and revisiting older stuff for backwards compatibility, I'm not saying they *could* update PSO on Xbox to work offline (it was the only always online version of ep 1 and 2), but it would be nice. Although already got Ephinea for that so not really arsed. I'd definitely play through shit like Breakdown or Lost Odyssey again at better frame rates though.

I haven't tried Lost Odyssey on the Xbone yet but doesn't it run solid?

I am also lead to believe that some games had a shit framerate hard coded into them. I'm not talking about the Dark Souls way where bumping up the framerate would mess up the game but stuff like Fable 2. Fable 2 still runs as shit as it did on the 360 and I kind of doubt that the Xbox X couldn't bump it up a bit - I mean they were able to apply a 4k patch so why does it still run so sloppily? Whenever I play Fable 2 I feel like I am drunk or tripping.

Like I said, their BC, at least for now, is bound to downloading the full game to the HDD and as long as that's the case, they need the publishers "okay". So if they ask SE "Hey, can we put Nier up there" and SE has that Nier remake in the pipeline and expects this to affect sales they'll be like "lol no". I am pretty sure this is the same reason why Tales of Vesperia never hit the BC list because Bamco was planning to do that. Same with dead publishers or publishers who just don't give a shit like Sega - honestly why are they so against JSRF?

Uh yeah, lost odyssey runs okay? Just looks kind of ass when it still runs in 720p. I'd be happy with 1080p60 for it, but I'm more just being a snob about it I guess. If I'm gonna sit down for a 40 hour RPG I'm gonna want it looking as smooth as possible.

That said, I've tried forcing better frame rates in older games before and WHEW BOY that has some results. Run Grandia 2 PAL on dreamcast and force 60Hz mode and watch everything desync.

Ah so that's the problem. Yeah I get it man, I played Just Cause 2 and some other games that didn't receive a X Enhanced patch and they look like ass on a 4k TV. I haven't tried Lost Odyssey so I didn't know how bad it was. Oblivion and Orange Box look pretty great though. It's a shame that not all games received an update. Maybe they'll work on something for the nextbox.

Yeah it's best to never touch PAL versions. A lot of them are fucked beyond repair unfortunately. At least the ones that were badly converted like basically any PSX game.
