Other / Bethesda and the future of TES/Fallout

I recently picked up a Xbox One X and on a whim decided to get Fallout 4, Oblivion and Skyrim. Oblivion mostly for nostalgia and the other 2 for the increased mod support thanks to MS being far less restrictive than Sony.

From my first playthrough on, there were a lot of things that annoyed me with Fallout 4. Namely the dialogue system, the awful story, the restrictive settlement building and the overall shoddy gameplay. Luckily, the restrictive settlement building can be easily fixed across all platforms with mods. That still leaves one with an awful story, a shitty dialogue system and awful gameplay.

Now that I have played it again, I began to pay a bit more attention to some of the stuff that were going down in the game.

Radiant everything: I feel they went completely overboard or just didn't care for making that stuff believable. I have a hard time believing that Raiders would trek across half the map to harass a settlement with 2 people and 10 Tato plants. That's just not believable in the slightest especially because there are far more lucrative places across the way. Likewise I have a hard time believing that a bunch of raiders manage to threaten a settlement that is guarded by 10 Automatrons and 15 or so Rocket turrets.

Incompetence: A "rumor" surfaced that you were originally able or supposed to fight in the Combat Zone (which is pretty much just a Raider Base now) but Beth couldn't figure out how to remove only ranged weapons from your inventory so that stuff was scrapped. The same is supposedly true for the robot racetrack too. Of course Bethesda never really said anything to that but considering how they had to handle the metro in Fallout 3, I don't think it's too far fetched to assume that it's most likely true.

Fast Travel: I normally don't mind fast travel enough but with Fallout 4 I noticed that the game relies on it too much. Radiant Quests take you to such remote locations that travel on foot is a chore. Settlement attacks are another thing, if you were to travel to the settlement that is being attacked by foot, you'd never make it in time. Additionally it is kind of dumb that you have to travel to a settlement with a 500 defense rating to make sure that the attack is repelled - the cap for a successful defense is embarrassingly low. They also failed to make the world itself interesting and a lot of places are devoid of any interesting side tidbits. Overall exploration is very underwhelming this time around.

A Rollercoaster: That sums up the MSQ pretty much. The MSQ makes sure that you get to see all their awesome and cool set pieces. Wow a Deathclaw. Wow Power Armor. It carefully navigates you through the world, ensuring that you never break the sequence in the MSQ by blocking off access to vital areas (Can't have you miss out on Dogmeat, Nick, Piper or a trailchase by having you encounter Kellog early in Fort Hagen). They also make sure that you meet all the factions one way or another. Even if you don't care to find the railroad, one of the factions will eventually want you to find them. Same with the minutemen. Same with the BoS, they make absolutely sure that you witness their grand entrance into the commonwealth.

Dialogue in itself: Apart from the terrible dialogue system they added into the game, some of the dialogue options are really questionable. For example, for some odd reason, the devs expected that your first contact with ghouls will be in Goodneighbor. You can meet a bunch of ghouls on the way and the MC doesn't give a fuck but boy, when you enter goodneighbor, you can freak out at Hancock's and the Shopkeeper's appearance as if it's the first time you meet a ghoul.

So after playing Fallout 4, I did play some Skyrim and I noticed a bunch of similarities but for some odd reason, they are less obvious than they were in Fallout 4. I guess that stems from the fact that Skyrim has more to offer than collecting junk to build a few shacks. I mean, part of my routine was usually to level up illusion and sneak which in itself usually involves some time away from the MSQ or the overall woes of Skyrim and the Empire.

But just like Fallout 4, Skyrim makes sure that you can not break the sequence within the MSQ. The MSQ also makes sure that you know of all the factions that are available in the game.

That one time Companions event when going from Riverwood to Whiterun.
The scripted event in Riften AND just in case you missed that, the MSQ makes sure you meet the Thieves Guild.
A conversation in Windhelm about the boy who wants to contact the Brothers of the Hood.
The College of Winterhold - you have to meet their angry librarian.

Since skipping part of the MSQ isn't an option, I am almost convinced that they wanted to make you hate the Thalmor that way - by sending you to their dumb party on the whims of a has been blades agent. I mean, I didn't like the Thalmor before but having to go to their party for fuckall didn't make me like them any more. That part also reflected very poorly on the Blades.

The dialogue in Skyrim is also pretty wonky. After the MSQ your MC should have a general idea of Elder Scrolls, yet the first thing you can do, when meeting Serana is to ask her, like a total dunce, what an Elder Scroll is. The same happens across the board - your character's responses can go from competent adventurer to total moron - and that is pretty annoying because it breaks roleplaying in more than one way.

Vampirism: I am pretty much convinced at this point that the reason why they removed the NPC hostilities at stage 4 was because they couldn't fine tune it in any way. Because now the only downside to being a vampire is the minuscule penalty to HP/MP/STA regeneration in sunlight and the weakness to fire. And both can be easily overcome with enchantments. I have to say, that people attacked me on sight if I was stage 4 was a double edged sword. On the one hand it gave me a reason to be careful and stay fed - on the other hand I found it incredibly stupid that someone with max disposition towards me would attack me the moment I reach stage 4 or that people who, more or less belong to a guild but aren't really considered members within the engine, would attack me on sight (like Maven). Instead of doing something else they just applied a blanket fix and nobody cares now. Maybe they couldn't apply anything else, who knows. Shame that they tossed attributes out of the window because Oblivion, with Personalty and Disposition, offered a pretty neat framework for that.

Stealth/Invisibility: Is also a thing that has gotten worse with every iteration of their "Totally not the Morrowind Engine guise" Creation Engine. In Oblivion, if you were invisible, you could run around, bump into people and (if it didn't break) could attack people and they'd have no idea where you are. With Fallout 3 came changes to that. Bumping into people would now result in them knowing where you are. Skyrim took things further, in addition to bumping into people, running normally would give your location away too. AND NEW NEW NEW NEW if you bumped into a reanimated corpse, the whole dungeon would know where you are - note that all these things also happen when invisible. Fallout 4 took this even further - if you or your companion bump into each other, everyone will know your location. So I shudder to think how it will be handled in the next instance of their creation engine.

Lastly, while we all like to point and laugh at Fallout 76 and it's failures we should remember one thing - that engine will most likely be the basis for TES VI

Went on a nostalgia trip and was looking up the current PSO scene. I guess a NA localization of PSO 2 is coming out next year. That might be fun to get in on again.
Wasn't that going to be Xbox only?

Still can't be assed to play this game. I still haven't done the story - meaning I still have to do that Trial with Tsuyo. Can't say I give much of a shit at this point.

Last night my gf told me that Shadow Bringers early access starts early july lmao. I was completely dumbfounded when she told me that because I didn't expect it to be so soon. Then again, I didn't really bother to keep up at all.

I fuckin' stalled out on PSO around level 150 something, just felt very 'White Beast S2' in that spamming Episode 4 over and over was the optimal thing to do. Been hitting PSO2 pretty hard last couple days though, the 1% team seems dead AF though so I bailed on that. Currently going towards unlocking Hero.

Oh boy what a mess. I did catch the whole thing about Goblin Slayer but didn't pay much mind to it. It didn't seem like my cup of tea so I skipped it but I did hear that people were all mad about the initial scene where the party gets owned by Goblins. Nice to know what's up with Shield Hero. I mean what the fuck man. And fuck Crunchyroll anyway. "The money goes back to the creators so here is your new Anime Steven Universe High Guardian Spice from GRORIOUS CARIFORUNIA". CR has been trying so hard to get virtue points the past few years it's ridiculous. Even ended up getting blocked by them on Twitter for pointing out that their diversity panel is lacking brown people.

Ah yeah I remember now, Anime News Network. Yeah that was some fucking mess right there.

I think people don't take that shit to the courts because they know they have no fucking case and would get laughed out of the room. Most of the time it's just baseless accusations with no real evidence to back it up so you use an online mob. Someone will be deranged enough to do something. It was the same thing with the MAGA kid which was a whole new level of stupid especially because big fucking prominent voices joined the call to arms against a fucking kid who, as it turned out, didn't do shit. And it's satisfying to know that they are all getting sued for libel but I doubt that this will change a thing.

Regarding the whole anime thing, it's really fucking scary how easy it is to accuse someone of something as heinous as rape and ruin their life without the need of any proof. I mean I am really sure that there are situations where it is really difficult to prove for a woman that it went down and bullshit like this really just hurts the real victims which makes me pretty damn mad as well and I'm glad I'm not a judge who would ever have to decide on a case where it's word against word.

This whole mess is also the reason why I barely pay attention to Twitter these days. Not just that it's something new every fucking week, but people forget so easily too. Remember that google guy who got fired for the memo? The guy who ran over some antifas? You hear fuckall from the parkland kids. The whole ANN thing has mostly been forgotten too.

I'll try to break down everything I know as best as I can. There's still ongoing lulz happening. Today sean schemmel (Dub voice of Goku) was called a beta male and he got triggered pretty HARD.

I don't really follow it or any of the other shit that keeps happening but I've caught glimpses of it on Twitter and 4chan every now and again.

What's the Shield Hero thing about? I saw that pop up a few times but didn't really get any real information to piece stuff together.

It starts off as your typical isekai (isekai a genre meaning 'another world') series. Guys get transferred to another world, they get RPG cheat-like powers so on so forth. Now in this one the first thing that happens is one of the women decides to side with the hero of the shield and join his party. Next morning he finds all of his shit stolen, and the culprit is the bitch who joined the party. Bitch accuses the shield hero of rape which he didn't do, everyone believes her because she also just happens to be the king's daughter and a wahmen, and so starts the beginning of the series.

So the issue here is that people are crying about how false accusations of rape never happen, it doesn't portray women right, the writer is a male piece of shit blah blah blah. The funny thing about this is that they believe that the original author is a man when actually it's a woman lol. The producer of the anime did an AMA at reddit and basically said he had no idea there was an issue seeing as japan doesn't give a shit. Places like crunchyroll and ANN aren't looking too kindly on Shield Hero and Goblin Slayer because of rape. The issue with goblin slayer is that they brought in the whole idea of rapey goblins and that's not sitting well with people but that's another topic.

The memes have been ongoing. Monica Rial and Jamie Marchi (and the rest of funimation) being the accusers and Vic Mignogna being the accused looks the same as what shield hero is right now.

I also caught glimpses of another thing where some dude got accused of getting touchy with a cosplayer and then that cosplayer came out and said that she never accused the guy of anything and that he was always respectful towards her.

Yup, that was Vic Mignogna in the picture. I think it was AnimeNewsNetwork who originally posted that article too. ANN basically took the picture and created an article with it. It's funny that ANN is accusing Vic of rape because one of their higher ups was also accused of rape at some point. But it's okay because this other guy is on the side of wahmen.

She defended Vic and said everything was done with her and her parent's permission. ANN deleted the picture but didn't apologize and kept the article up.

Everything these days is just such a fucking shitshow man. You have that metoo crap, then the whole sony policy on anime tiddies, every week a new metoo. It's just one shit after another that it's getting uninteresting to keep up
True true, it's all the same shit nowadays. It's just sad that they're isn't much people can do about these false accusations. People on Funi's side won't give any evidence when asked and keep saying it happened it happened so it's true. At least the people on the side of Vic are going out of their way to Debunk and show actual evidence. I'm trying to be neutral on this but it's hard when the evidence keeps pointing to Vic being innocent and the SJW won't give any evidence.

It sucks that they decided to bring this whole drama to twitter rather than to the courts. More than likely because they probably wouldn't win in the courts. Once it's in the public like this your career is practically done.

Oh and here's some of the coverage about Sean Schemmel/Goku's VA acting a fool lol.

Monica Rial and Jamie Marchi have been pretty toxic with this whole situation. Jamie Marchi had gone out there saying she wanted vic's balls to be cut off, but funimations okay with that because wahmen. Lots of people are being shadowbanned on twitter too. MarzGirl or something like that was the one who created the #kickvic tag (also a big time feminist SJW) and has been campaigning pretty hard. Meepygirl went out there and doctored her own footage to make the guy look bad but got destroyed when another user posted the original footage which showed that she's just an awkward fool.

And there's obviously way more stuff to it, but that's all I feel like posting right now.

Anyone else following along with this shitshow lol?

Vic Mignogna (the voice actor who did voices like Broly and Edward Elric dubbed) got accused of rape by some SJWs at funimation using the #metoo movement. Guy lost his job at Funi, lost his role with Rooster Teeth's RWBY as well and banned from a bunch of cons. And funny enough one of the main accusers (Monica Rial) ended up taking all of his staff positions. I'd love to go into detail but it's better to just watch some youtube videos. These guys cover it pretty well.

https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCMrpRnyBJhgVBy3rm0K4P5w/videos
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCaE1z0qLeXWpExU02uMeuvA/videos

I've lost a lot of respect for Funimation for all this and the rest of the dubbers there who seem to be just throwing this guy under the bus without showing proper evidence.

Also there's the whole lulz with the Shield Hero anime. The main character gets accused of rape by a woman and some people aren't happy about that lol
