Title: Started playing PSO again
Post by: Esufer on February 25, 2018, 07:11:19 AM
Title.

Playing on a private server, not sure if it falls under the piracy rule on here or is considered emulation.

Pretty Good, though. Client has some enhancements to run it in widescreen, etc.

Having a hoot, found most mmos out atm suck balls.

Anyone else interested in trying It?

I wouldn't say it really matters in regards to the rules tbh

What server are you playing on now?

Can't really say I am interested in trying it. After countless years playing this game and being part of the behind the scenes at Schthack, I can't really find much enjoyment anymore.

The last time I had some remote interest was when I was modding my Xbox and played around with modding the Xbox version but I never again felt the urge to play the game again.

Sometimes I do miss PSU but I don't think I'd want to start again.

To add to this, I think the main appeal of PSO/U compared to other games was the ease of access. There was no queue or anything. You grabbed your friend and then you went into the "dungeon". You could even go alone and it was fine.

In other games you have that holy trinity, maybe you even get stuck in a queue before you get to play.

I'm on Ultima. It's over at phantasystaronline.net. got the week off so probably gonna spend a bit of time on there.

It has a load of custom content and triple exp rates up until 165, also ultimate mode is way harder from what I understand.

And Yeah, did that psu private server ever come to fruition? Really miss psu Sometimes, but that was def more for the weirdos that played it than the actual game. Tried pso2 out a few times but last time I had a look on it, zorak infodumped me and I was so far behind I skipped it.

PSO2 is still going strong from what I've heard. I might've picked it up for Vita but I heard that you need a JP account to play it and I really didn't feel like switching between accounts since it's such a hassle on the Vita.

I asked a friend about the PSU servers, gonna wait and see what she says.

Even with all the extras it is still PSO - it's much like Diablo 2. No matter what you do, it's still the same game and I have burned myself out on both of them. They're great games but I just can't get much enjoyment out of them.

Yeah, I made one forever ago, it's been fine on PC except I don't really know anyone and I'm a million miles from anything relevant (newest class always seems OP)

If you do end up giving it a shot lmk. I'm also totally down for psu private servers if they every appear, if not just for nostalgias sake/all that shit i didn't get to do while I was at uni

I think part of PSU's charm was the braindead community.

"I'm the best Fortecher there is"
"How to be the best Wartecher"
"Do you think...."

It's just too bad that Sega mismanaged the game. Could have lasted a lot longer.

Absolutely agree. Even for a niche mmo the servers were up for a criminally short time

For North America you can blame Sega all the way back to Japan. When people duped Gil, it was Sega Japan who took forever to come up with a counter measure. It was pretty ridiculous how the whole thing worked anyway. Instead of having transactions or your PM server sided, a lot of stuff was handled on the client side and thus very vulnerable to manipulation.

If Sega JP would have acted sooner, things might have gone differently but you could tell that they just didn't give a fuck.

Settling in nicely on Ephinea. Just cleared TTF on VHard.
Having a lot of fun, although having to play tethered as my broadbands gone down, which is a pain in the balls.

Was JeM really bad? I only remember Rooby Eruclipuso being a total dork. I don't know or remember a whole lot of the other members of that clan/guild.

You don't actually need a JP account if you get a physical copy for either the Vita or PS4 versions. The JP account is only needed if you want to download the digital version.

Oh? That's pretty unexpected. Does the PS4 version require plus?

To my knowledge you don't need Playstation Plus for it. Just be aware that being on PS4 you wont have the English patch. However they have recently got it working on PS Vita if you have the ability to run Henkaku.

Isn't that kind of dangerous though? I mean can't they detect that? I haven't really bothered with modding my Vitas mostly because when I can mod a system I often end up going off the deep end with it and usually end up not doing anything with them once I am done.

Aside from that, I never really let the language barrier stop me tbh.

If you mean the English Patch, I don't think Sega in particular cares, if anything it might make the Japanese players a bit confused as some of the chat macros will then be sent to them in English. As for Vita hacking, I honestly don't know. I know PSN spoofing is possible now so you can make it think you have whatever firmware you want. With Sony pretty much no longer caring about the Vita I honestly don't know how dangerous it is.

Though if you want the English patch for PSO2 the easiest path is still the PC.

If it was a throwaway account I'd risk it but I can see them still paying attention to it so I don't wanna take that risk tbh.

Well if you do decide to try it out, let me know. Qwerty and I can probably play with you, we're on Ship 2.
